Agnes

   Legendary Saint.
   Agnes is venerated as a virgin martyr and as the patron saint of chastity. She is listed in the ancient martyrologies and in the Canon of the Roman Mass. Almost nothing is known of the facts of her life. She is thought to have been put to death at the age of twelve or thirteen and her cult has existed since the fourth century. In iconography she is generally portrayed with a lamb (presumably because the word for lamb in Latin is ‘agnus’).
